Developing Educators and Leaders

At the core of any lasting educational movement is the formation of its teachers and leaders. The future of American classical education—grounded in timeless principles and aimed at cultivating virtuous, free-thinking citizens—depends on our ability to prepare educators who both understand and embody these ideals. These individuals must possess not just knowledge, but also the moral and intellectual virtues that defined the servant-leaders of America’s founding generation.

To meet this need, the American Classical Lyceum will serve as a national center for training classical educators and school leaders, guided by the American Classical Leadership Education® model. This model draws from the education of the Founding Fathers, emphasizing character formation, a broad liberal arts foundation, and civic responsibility. Classical education nurtures wisdom and virtue through engagement with the great books, ideas, and traditions of Western civilization. Realizing this vision nationwide begins with investing in the educators who lead it.

The Lyceum will develop rigorous academic and professional development programs that immerse teachers in classical pedagogy and philosophy. These programs will go beyond conventional methods, emphasizing truth, beauty, and goodness as the highest aims of learning. Educators will gain mastery in the Socratic method, dialectical thinking, and moral formation, alongside deep content knowledge in literature, history, philosophy, and science—from Homer to Shakespeare, Plato to Lincoln.

Classical education also requires principled leadership. The Lyceum will offer specialized training for heads of school, deans, and other administrators. This leadership track will focus on both operational excellence and the deeper philosophical foundations of classical education. Topics such as school culture, tradition, servant leadership, and community formation will be central, ensuring that classical schools are guided by vision, virtue, and a deep commitment to human flourishing.
